October 22, 1844 --- October 22, 2016

What a day it was....

172 since the great disappointment of 1844. Here's a look at what happened back on October 22, 1844.

It was a day supposed to be the greatest and happiest day of all time! Many Christians from different denominations in the 1800's accepted and believed the message of a pastor named William Miller, who (after studying the book of Daniel) believed that The LORD Jesus would return to the world on October 22nd, 1844. Some gave away all their worldly possessions; some abandoned their fields and crops, and all faced ridicule and scoffing by non-believers incessantly. What was supposed to be the happiest day of their lives turned out to be the very saddest.

The great anticipation for this day led to a great and bitter disappointment. Many waiting the whole day for The LORD's second returning, but as minutes turned into hours, nothing happened. Many wept bittering because of this because not only did they lose everything but some also lost hope in their faith and beliefs.

Everyone dealt with the great disappointment in many ways, but there were a few who went back to the bible to study it again. From that remnant, the Seventh-day Adventist movement was born.

Since that great disappointing day, 172 years have passed. Are we more on fire for The LORD like the Millerites of that day? Are we even interested in His Second Coming anymore? Or have we just gotten used to 'life as usual'. Let's solemnly take inventory of our spiritual health, and keep our hearts always focused on The LORD. He promised to come again, let's be ready for His Second Advent.
