For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. 1 Corinthians 4:9
The Generation of Youth for Christ (GYC) had its most recent conference in Orlando, Florida. Thousands of adults, young people and children filled the Conference auditorium day after day in attendance. This was my fifth GYC conference since 2009, and the same Spirit that permeated the conference from that year was the same Spirit that was present this year. Our theme 'Before Men and Angels' helped us focus on the great controversy that is taking place before the universe, and our role in this cosmic conflict.
The theme was taken from 1 Corinthians 4:9 and the word that stood out in this text (to me) was spectacle. In this world, no one wants to be a spectacle (but then again... there are many who actually want to be!). Being spectacle often means being something different to the norm (especially in terms of looks). In this verse, it is interesting that we do not make ourselves the spectacles, but THE LORD makes us so. The scripture says we have our epistles in our hearts, known and read of men. 2 Corinthians 3:2. The LORD delights to make us the spectacle before men and angels, HE desires that we might reveal HIS character before all the universe so that the lies of the enemy can be realized.
This year, I am endeavouring to be a Christlike spectacle before men and angels. Are you?
