171 years ago, in 1844, sincere and hopeful Christians accepted the belief (proposed by a pastor by the name of William Miller) that Christ's second coming would be on this date on that year.
It was a day of GREAT anticipation! Many from different denominations (Baptists, Methodists, etc) followed Miller's teachings and gave up all their earthly possessions to get ready for The LORD's coming. What was supposed to be the happiest day of their life soon turned to be a very sad one.
The GREAT anticipation led to the GREAT disappointment.
Many returned to their former faiths, but there were a few, a remnant if you will who continued to study the bible and learn where they went wrong. From that remnant came the Seventh-day Adventist movement.
171 years!
Are we living in great anticipation for The LORD's second coming? Or are we so disappointed with life that we return to where we came.
Let's learn some lessons from this great date!
