It was a great and tiring weekend!
My husband and I had a dear friend who was graduating from college on Saturday evening, May 13. We were elated to get the invitation and was excited to go, but the distance and the timing was intimidating. It would be held at Oakwood University (in Alabama!) during Mother's Day Weekend!.
We researched how to get there, and the most affordable way was driving. We rented a car and started driving on Wednesday evening (stopping at relatives along the drive down south).
Our departure was painful! We left almost 3 hours later than we planned, suffered a flat tire somewhere in Pennsylvania, and had to drive verrrrrryyy slooowly on the replacement tire (as no other rental car company was open to allow us to trade the vehicle) by the time we were up and running again, and we wanted to get to family. Despite it all, we arrived safely at my cousins by 4:00/5:00am next morning!! We were also very happy our son slept almost the whole time so that helped! Because of the set-backs, we decided to stay longer with family and rest awhile. We started driving again that afternoon, and drove almost all night until we arrived in Alabama the next day at 6:00am.
Once we arrived and got settled in Huntsville, we enjoyed the warm climate and the warm people. We were very excited when Sabbath (Saturday) came, and got to reunite with friends and loved ones who also came down for the graduation. For lunch, we gathered in a park near the convention center and enjoyed some A-MAZING vegetarian and vegan cuisine. The sun was very hot, but the company made it bearable. It was beyond wonderful!
I celebrated my first 'official' Mother's Day this year. Because we were going to be away for the holiday, my loving husband had me open a gift he got for me before our journeys. It was a musical globe with a picture of my son and I in the midst of the globe! I love it so!
Our drive back home was a lot easier thank The LORD! We drove through more states on our return and got to see more rolling hills and mountains. By the time we arrived back in New York after driving all day, the night was far spent. We thank The LORD for safe travels to and from Huntsville, and were happy to be back home.
The driving was brutal, especially heading down South, but I would do it again in a heartbeat! (but with more snacks and more rest-stop breaks along the way :-) ) Until next road trip...safe travels this summer!

Summer's Here! Enjoy!!!
I am a summer girl!
I love heat and I love the summer-time.
I was born and raised in the Caribbean, so may explain why I resonate more with sunshine than winter.
It's finally looking like the summer is here to stay and I am so excited about that!
My advice to you all: enjoy it! go outside, go to the beach, the park, vacation (hello!), and the zoo (where I am going in a few hours ;-)
I am also itching to go on my next road trip (any suggestions?). For me, the road trip itself is part of the adventure, no matter what the destination may be. I think I am overdue for one of those; am thinking it's high time to go on the road...
Anyway, running out to enjoy God's beautiful warmth and sunshine. Enjoy what's left of this weekend :-)
